Daniel Ricciardo came home in 3rd place, Valtteri Bottas' chances of the title were fading after only managing 5th. Hamilton was not happy with the deployment of the safety car labelling it "BS", on the restart he came under attack again from Vettel but was able to fend him off up until the finish. In the second half of the race, the safety car came out after the two Force India cars of Esteban Ocon and Sergio Pérez collided leaving debris on the track, earlier in the race both Pérez and Ocon had also touched wheels.

Since the introduction of the hybrid power units, Williams has become a regular in the points and occasional podium finisher but has yet to full rediscover its winning pedigree, last tasting victory five years ago and on a run of two decades without adding to its haul of nine constructors championship titles.
Originally the team had announced that Valtteri Bottas would partner Canadian rookie Lance Stroll but, following the surprise retirement of Nico Rosberg, Bottas made the jump to Mercedes as his replacement and Felipe Massa was coaxed out of a short-lived retirement to partner Stroll. Much of the focus over the winter months has been on the driver lineup at Williams. Williams continues its relationship with Mercedes, a relationship that has seen improved results for the former championship winning manufacturer, and Martini remain as the title sponsor for 2017.
The team had already released several digital images of the Williams Mercedes FW40, but differences between the two designs are clear for all to see, most notably the addition of a shark fin on Saturday's full release.
